Pacific Testing Laboratories
Metallurgical/Metallographic Testing

Testing and examination facilities at Pacific Testing Laboratories are among the most modern and comprehensive in the industry; typical tests are:

  • Chromate Coating on Zinc and Cadmium Surface Analysis
  • Coating/Plating/Case Thickness
  • Corrosion Studies (potentiostat/Galvanostat)
  • Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS)
  • Energy Dispersive X-ray Analysis (EDS)
  • Grain Size
  • Grain Structure
  • Hardness
  • Hydrogen Embrittlement
  • Metallography
  • Microfocus X-ray Radiographic
  • Microhardness
  • Microsection
  • Microstructure
  • Optical Emission Spectroscopy
  • Photomacrography/Photomicrgraphy
  • Plated-Thru-Hole Plating Thickness and Resistance inmicro-ohms (Non-destructive)
  • Potentiostatic & Potentiodynamic Anodic Polarization (ASTM G5)
  • Salt Spray (Fog) Corrosion Analysis
  • Stress Corrosion
  • Welding Examination
  • Voltammetric Analysis
  • X-ray Radiographic

For our customers who require high resolution topographical imaging, we offer the finest instrumentation available: two Cambridge Stereoscan Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM) with Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS), and one Viskers Stereoscan Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) with a Lanthanum Hexaboride (LaB6) electron gun. The LaB6 gun provides twice the resolution of standard tungsten filament electron guns at the low accelerating voltages necessary for microelectronic device analysis, and the analysis of uncoated non-conductive samples. The instruments are designed to provide high resolution images over 100,000X.

These instruments, along with our cross-sectioning and polishing equipment, make the Optical Metallography facilities at Pacific Testing among the most extensive in the industry. In addition, these facilites are under the supervision of our Chief Metallurgist, with a Ph.D. in Metallurgy.
